4th of July Weekend Festivities and our 100,000th and 100,001st Park Visitors

On Saturday July 6th we celebrated Independence Day and welcomed our 100,000th and 100,001st Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park visitors!

Meet husband and wife, Aldo Ponce (from Chile) and Karen Gaskell (from England). Aldo and Karen have been married for six years. They met at grad school in Manhattan, Kansas at Kansas State University where they both acquired their PhDs in Chemistry. They currently live in Washington DC and work at the University of Maryland. They came to New York City for the holiday weekend after they heard about FDR Four Freedoms Park on PBS!

It was a hot, hot weekend, but our visitors cooled down with some complimentary refreshments; they relaxed on the lawn, strolled around the Park and enjoyed The Recessionals, a Dixieland jazz band from Brooklyn. A group of bikers from the Five Borough Bike Club (5BBC) stopped by the Park as well as the Central Park Sketching & Art Meetup Group! City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Sally Minard, Park President, welcomed our 100,000th and 100,000st visitors and presented them with a certificate and gift bag.
